Durable shopping trolley: which details make a difference over time?

Durable shopping trolley: which details make a difference over time?

Is your shopping a few purchases at the market or several bags for the whole week?

Your trolley needs to handle the load, but also kerbs, everyday handling and repeated folding.

Durability goes beyond a weight limit. It depends on the whole system: the frame, wheels, containers and fastenings.

At BOMY, this thinking was central to the design: creating equipment that is practical today and built with long-term use in mind.

1. Design: look at how the load is supported

When your trolley is full, what actually supports your shopping?

The frame matters, but so do the joints, supports and attachment points. Strong materials alone are not enough if the connections are poorly designed.

In its article about its approach to design, Mon Chariot de Courses also highlights the importance of the frame, wheels and materials.

At BOMY, we designed the system as a whole:

  • The frame: supports the containers while remaining foldable.

  • The structured bases: provide support for your purchases.

  • The fastenings: connect the modules to the trolley while keeping attachment simple.

Modularity should make everyday handling easier without becoming a weak point.

2. Materials: look beyond fabric thickness

Your bag will be placed on the ground, loaded, carried and folded. These everyday uses should guide the choice of materials.

The fabric matters, but so do the seams, handles, zips and areas that touch the frame.

At BOMY, each element serves a purpose:

  • Oxford fabric: forms the outer shell of the everyday containers.

  • Internal structures and rigid bases: help maintain their shape and support your shopping.

  • Handles and attachment points: allow you to carry the modules once unclipped.

A durable container depends on how its parts work together, not simply on fabric that looks thick.

3. Wheels and fastenings: details used on every journey

Does your route include cobblestones, gaps or kerbs?

The wheels and their connections work just as hard as the bag.

At BOMY, the large wheels feature shock- and vibration-absorbing foam to improve comfort over uneven surfaces.

For compatible modules, we chose FIDLOCK magnetic-mechanical fastenings: magnets help guide the parts into place, while a mechanical lock holds them securely.

Easy attachment and secure retention are two different requirements. We wanted to bring them together.

4. Testing: check how it works, not just how it looks

A trolley may look sturdy in a photograph. But how does it perform when you handle it?

On its quality and innovation page, Rolser describes testing materials, wheels and durability. This highlights the importance of checking components beyond their appearance.

At BOMY, our end-of-line quality-control protocol includes:

  • Opening and folding: checking that the structures move correctly without trapping fabric.

  • Operating the closures: checking zips and fastening mechanisms.

  • Attaching the containers: checking their fit on the trolley and secure retention.

  • Inspecting the connections: looking for open seams, loose anchors or excessive play.

These checks assess manufacturing quality and function. They do not replace long-term endurance testing.

5. Lasting longer also means adapting to changing needs

If your habits change, do you need to replace your entire trolley?

At BOMY, the bag, baskets and trolley are independent. You can switch containers or expand your setup without starting from scratch.

Long-term usefulness also means continuing to use a product because it still fits your life.

BOMY: designed with durability in mind, backed by a 5-year warranty

Durability was part of the project from the beginning. It guided the design, material choices and connections, alongside comfort and modularity.

BOMY backs this commitment with a 5-year warranty, subject to the brand’s warranty terms.

Equipment you use regularly should be useful beyond the first day: it should be something you want to keep using, year after year.
